About AVZ Law Office – Legal Debt Collection in Cyprus
AVZ Law Office is an independent Cyprus law practice established in 2021 and based in Nicosia. The firm advises and represents domestic and international businesses, professional service providers, investors and private clients seeking to recover commercial debts and enforce contractual obligations in Cyprus.
Our Process
Our debt recovery work begins with a legal and commercial assessment of each claim. We review the relevant agreements, invoices, correspondence, acknowledgements of debt, payment history and available information concerning the debtor. This allows us to evaluate the legal basis of the claim, identify potential objections or limitation issues and recommend a proportionate recovery strategy.
Where appropriate, we begin with an out-of-court approach. This may include a formal demand for payment, direct communication with the debtor or their legal representatives, settlement negotiations and the preparation of a structured repayment arrangement. Our objective is to secure payment efficiently while avoiding unnecessary proceedings and legal costs where a commercially reasonable settlement remains possible.
Litigation, Enforcement & Cross-Border Judgments
If voluntary recovery is unsuccessful, AVZ Law Office can advise on and undertake court proceedings before the competent courts of the Republic of Cyprus. Depending on the circumstances, our work may include preparing and filing a civil claim, responding to disputed allegations, applying for appropriate interim measures, representing the creditor during proceedings and pursuing the recovery of legal costs where permitted.
The firm also assists with the recognition and enforcement of qualifying foreign judgments and court orders in Cyprus, subject to the applicable national, European Union and international legal framework. Once an enforceable judgment has been obtained or recognised, we advise on the enforcement measures that may be available against the debtor and known assets.
Meet the Team
Every matter is managed by a Cyprus-qualified lawyer. Clients receive a clear assessment of the available options, the expected procedure, the supporting evidence required and the principal legal and commercial risks before substantive action is taken. We provide progress updates throughout the case and consult the client before accepting any settlement or taking a step that may materially increase costs. The firm is led by Grigoris Aivazidis, a lawyer and international tax adviser admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association (Reg. No. 7940) and a member of the International Compliance Association.
Services & Industries
AVZ Law Office combines debt recovery with experience in corporate and commercial law, contractual disputes, real estate matters, regulatory compliance and cross-border legal work. This broader experience is particularly useful where a debt arises from a commercial agreement, professional service arrangement, property transaction, shareholder relationship or international business activity.
Fees and proposed recovery steps are discussed in advance and are adapted to the value, complexity, evidence and recovery prospects of each claim. Where a matter is unsuitable for economical recovery, the firm aims to identify this at an early stage so that the creditor can make an informed commercial decision. For further context, see Debitura's Cyprus debt-collection guide, which outlines local regulation and best practices.
PRICING MODEL
Pre-legal debt collection is generally offered on a success fee basis, calculated as a percentage of the amount actually recovered. The applicable percentage is agreed after reviewing the claim value, age of the debt, available documentation, debtor location and expected recoverability. A minimum administration or case-opening fee may apply to low-value or complex claims.
If court proceedings become necessary, legal work is normally charged through a fixed fee for each procedural stage or, where appropriate, at an agreed hourly rate. A success-related element may also be agreed where legally permissible and suitable for the particular case.
Court filing fees, service expenses, bailiff charges, translations, expert fees, searches and other third-party disbursements are charged separately. All professional fees are subject to VAT where applicable. A detailed written quotation is provided after the case materials have been reviewed, and no legal proceedings are commenced without the client's prior written approval.
